Children's Art Biennale

The Children’s Art Biennale is a two-year project devoted to art for children approached from an interdisciplinary perspective. Each edition explores a new leading theme. A project accompanying the artistic activities is the Children’s Art Observatory – a professional meeting for people working in the field of art for children. Artistic presentations also take place as part of the Observatory.

The Children’s Art Observatory is a meeting space for people who want to look more closely and thoughtfully at art created for young audiences. In the autumn of the year between Biennale editions, artists, researchers, educators and people interested in culture and art for the youngest audiences gather in Poznań. Together they discuss artistic events, deepen their reflection on selected aspects of creative work for young audiences and share different perspectives. The Observatory is a moment to pause and look at art as a field of reflection and exchange of ideas. The outcomes of these meetings include thematic essays and interviews with artists published in the Biennale book.

The Children’s Art Biennale Festival is the most important moment in the two-year cycle of the project. For eight days the city fills with art created with families and children in mind, yet open to everyone. It is a major celebration of the arts for families, school classes and kindergarten groups. The programme includes events from various artistic fields such as theatre, dance, literature, visual arts, music and film. These take the form of performances, concerts, performative actions, installations and creative activities in the urban space.

The Biennale demonstrates that art for children can be bold, moving and full of emotion. During the festival, audiences experience premieres created especially for the Biennale as well as works by invited artists from Poland and around the world. It is a time of joy, play and discovering new perspectives. The Biennale Festival creates a space where art meets curiosity about the world, and where every child can experience it in their own way.

The 26th edition of the Children’s Art Biennale will take place in 2026–2027.
