Children's Art Observatory
The Children’s Art Observatory is a platform for meetings, conversations and interdisciplinary reflection on art for children, inspired by the themes and events of successive editions of the Art for Children Biennale.
The main element of the project is a discussion group of observers meeting during successive editions of the Children’s Art Biennale (every two years at the end of May/beginning of June) with the participation of moderators. Its task is to discuss the artistic presentations and to prepare essays or interviews problematising the subject matter of the events. The texts created in this way are published in catalogues summarising the successive editions of the project.
Currently, the most important tasks of this project include:
- initiating meetings between people working in different areas related to children’s art,
- an exchange of experience and cross-fertilisation between practitioners and theoreticians working in the field of art for young people; and
- developing – through a diversity of perspectives – new ways of looking at art for children and young people.
The Art for Children Observatory has two iterations:
- an autumn conference and workshop meeting preceding the next editions of the project,
- a discussion group during the Children’s Art Biennale at the turn of spring and summer.
Children’s Art Observatory during the 25th Biennial of Art for Children will have two parts:
- conference and workshop meeting to be held on 10-11 October 2024 (more for more information, see the Observatory 2024 tab)
- discussion group during the Children’s Art Biennale, which will take place from 25 May to 1 June 2025.
